Lady Gaga

I'm still working on my caricature skills.
This time I chose Lady Gaga. I think she's totally awesome and dont want to hear anything else! ;) I like my pop artists eccentric.
I love this whole concept she has going for herself. If you dont know, check out the music video for paparazi The whole style concept, performance and music is just perfection - plus its with that hot Swedish guy from True Blood.
She seems to be a really sweet person too, check out this intervie with her: part1 part 2

I want a cat 2

I want a cat 2 is online! A two page story with 12 different second pages!
Go read it at inkplosion.com

I made the first page and the last second page, I put the last page at the end of this post, so you have a chance to go read the whole thing without my spoiler.
I had a lot of fun doing these pages, that's why I even thought of making the little Wermaid in the first place. Like always I wanted to show you some sketches, my first and second version of the very first panel:

SPOILER AHEAD!!

the little Wermaid

I started working on a comic project again!

My friend Regina Haselhorst is writing the story. She has an amazing sense of humor, if you know German you should check out her current online Comic Mädchencomic which, I should mention, probably isnt really worksave.

Our comic is about a mermaid that has been bitten by a werewolf. Now she has hair all over her body and is taller and stronger.
The other mermaids are afraid she might be cramping their style and try to get rid of her whenever they can.
So here is our hero:

Stay tuned for more!

Harry Potter

I wanted to try out more caricature. I had a lot of fun with the Serge Gainsbourg piece and I recently got the amazing Al Hirschfeld book "Hirschfeld on line" I can really recommend it. It is full of beautiful drawings, and there is a comment by Hirschfeld himself on almost every drawing, so you really get an insight into the world of that genius.

These are my sketches. You can see that I decided to add the magic pets later, I think they make the picture much more interesting.

Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin for "Draw Serge!"

You have probably heard of the amazing blog "Draw Serge!" already. If not you are in for a treat. Not only does it commemorate the great artist Serge Gainsbourg but it is full of lots and lots of beautiful illustration contributed by many different amazing illustrators.

So this is my contribution. I am quite happy with it, I feel that I have pushed my style a little bit further in the direction I want to pursue. There are less gradients than in my other work, I avoided excessive detail and I like that the shapes are more abstract and expressive. I also enjoyed doing a caricature quite a bit, I definitely want to do more in that genre (is that the correct term?).

This is my color sketch. The piece actually had a black background until it was finished, my boyfriend suggested I turn it off, which instantly made it look 40% more powerful - maybe even 47% ;) so I kept it.
